Review
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a pretty fun sequel to an iconic movie that has managed to stay relevant and quotable for two decades. If you loved the first instalment, chances are you’ll love the second. If you didn’t, why are you still reading this?
First things first, the story is… mostly good. The plot is relevant and just similar enough to the first one to give you the vibes of the OG without being a mindless copy. You get to see how the characters have grown and how their faces have changed an exact amount of zero. It is great to see how such iconic characters have fared in their lives, a bit like those 70s–80s “where are they now” end credits, only these go for two hours.
Still, we are talking about a silly comedy whose power is exactly that: to be silly. As such, don’t expect flawless writing. Subplots get lost in the sauce with no resolution whatsoever, and big problems are fixed magically with the power of quirkiness. But that is kinda what you came for, isn’t it? If you want something more realistic, go next door to watch The Drama (2026). We don’t want big conversations in here, just good sass and better outfits.
Speaking of which, fashion addicts will NOT be disappointed by the endless exhibition of crazy outfits that the film displays, product placement aplenty and random fashion icons parading about. There are a few life-changing outfits that will be seared in your mind for decades to come…. From the sickest outfit ever seen at a funeral to the most powerful woman in fashion quite literally dressed in grandma’s curtains.

Still, the big win of this film is bringing the most basic element in the fashion industry to the screen: the shade. Obviously, the Bezos-Sanchez-Vogue drama had to be acknowledged somehow. And so it is. In the form of Emily and her uber-rich, newly post-glow-up boyfriend. Simply put, if you know, you know. And while equating Emily (Emily Blunt) to Lauren Sanchez might sound like a complete travesty at first glance, the story actually does make a lot of sense for her. After all, only Emily would go through all the work of giving a below-average man a glow-up just to have a nice patron for her expensive lifestyle.
The old faces have their heartwarming story with big homecoming vibes, but there are also a few new faces worth noting. Namely, Lucy Liu as the reasonable millionaire who just wants a better world and Simone Ashley as the new Emily. Both of which have small roles that tie the story together nicely despite the plot holes.
All in all, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a genuinely fun time. Is it better than the first one? Not really, but it doesn’t have to be. It is funny, fashionable, and mean as hell. Everything you could possibly want from a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. That’s all.
Advice to take from this movie:
- Never wear a curtain. Please. Never.
- Invest in a good pair of sunglasses.
- There is such a thing as too much in fashion. Don’t let anyone tell you any different.
